Web Analytics

There are a number of web analytics packages on the market today. While we feel many of the larger, more robust, and costly web analytics packages are important to larger clients, we recommend clients with viewer than 5,000 visitors per day to simply utilize the power of these free web analytics packages. We have the expertise and knowledge to help you install these powerful analytics packages, as well as train you on how to harness their capabilities.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is the free site analysis online tool provided by Google. Google's initial goal in creating the tool for its users was to enable them to better track Google AdWords advertisement campaigns. The idea being that if webmasters and web marketers could more effectively optimize their Google AdWords campaigns that they would be able to create a stronger ROI and thus spend more on Google AdWords. Because Google Analytics is so power and free to all users, it quickly became popular for not just tracking Google AdWords performance but for tracking nearly anything a much more expensive web analytics package would provide. Google Analytics finally provided the power of web analytics into the hands of small website owners and marketers that couldn't afford expensive web analytics packages.

Google Analytics allows you to view detailed information about the visitors to your site such as: which site did they come from, which keyword did they use to find your site, how many pages did they view, how long did they stay on your site, how many achieved the desire goal (i.e. purchase, signup, advertising click), where they are geographically, which operating system are they using, screen resolution, and a multitude of other things. Google Analytics provides all of this data for free.

Google Analytics is very easy to install and use and you can be tracking your website performance just 3 or 4 hours after you complete the 5 minute installation (it has to gather data and then compile it). Take a look at the BDE Consulting blog post, Step-by-Step Google Analytics Installation Instructions, for further information on how to install Google Analytics on your website.

Microsoft Gatineau

Microsoft Gatineau is currently a limited release beta web analytics tool. However, you may put yourself on the Microsoft Gatineau waiting list. Microsoft states that all applicants will be accepted as capacity allows. What our founder, Brent D. Payne, did learn about Microsoft Gatineau features after he bought a Microsoft employee a drink on the flight from SES San Jose 2007 back to Seattle, WA was the following:

How can Microsoft Gatineau provide this type of profiling? Microsoft Passport. They use the information entered when a customer signs up for a Microsoft Passport to help profile the users visiting your site. Imagine being able to know whether women or men convert better or that visitors that have also visited your competitor's site in the past x number of days tend to convert better or worse. We'll post more information about Microsoft Gatineau once it officially launches to a wider range of webmasters and online marketers in 2008.
